History Happens...

History always is.

But though it exists-- though real things really happened, were seen and heard and experienced and sometimes recorded-- history also has a way of disappearing from view. It will be lost and forgotten if we do not continue to treasure and preserve it.

Most of us have wished (with some regret) that we had talked more with a parent, grandparent or other family member or friend before they were gone, taking with them the history held in their life and memory.

The history and heritage of Baxter County is a hidden treasure, but it's the purpose of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society that it won't be lost. That's our mission, expressed in the phrase,"Preserving the Past for the Future."

The pages of this website are meant to provide you with a connection with the work of the Society, and some of the treasures which have resulted from our efforts.

We also hope to encourage you, if you haven't already, to join our efforts by becoming a member of our Society or by supporting its work.
